Breakfast is served in the classroom. All students should arrive at school no earlier than 8:00 and will be supervised on the playground. Parents are welcome to wait with their children on the playground.

When the first bell rings, parents say goodbye to their children outside. Children walk to class. Breakfast will begin at 8:15. Any students not in class at this time are considered tardy and must check in at the office.

Our Crawford students are very independent and do a great job lining up outside with their class before the day begins. We have several adults outside to ensure student safety. On occasion, families want to walk their students to class. If you would like to do this, please be sure to have an ID to obtain a visitor's badge and then you can walk your child to their classroom door to say goodbye before the bell has rung. Once the bell has rung we ask that you only go to the classroom after first setting a time with the teacher. Our instructional time is very important and once the bell has rung we need to be sure that our teachers can focus on their classroom instruction and safety of the students. Our staff also walks the children out to the playground at the end of the day to meet you. Please meet them on the playground at dismissal. Kindergartners, first graders and second graders are handed off to parents or designated caregivers. Any students who have not been picked up in a timely manner will be brought to the office. The Aurora Police Department may be called.

On days when the weather is below twenty degrees, students and parents will be allowed to wait in the hallways beginning at 8:00. Parents wishing to come inside must sign in and get a visitor pass. If it is not below twenty degrees, it will be an outdoor recess day. Please dress your child appropriately for the weather.

What are the office policies?

What are school office hours?

Our office is open from 7:30am-3:30pm every day. If we can assist you, please stop by during this time. Please remember that there is no supervision for students until 8:00.

What are your attendance and tardy policies?

Crawford students engage in important learning right as soon as the bell rings and up to the time that the last bell rings at 3:15pm on Mondays-Thursdays and 1:15pm on Fridays. If your student is tardy, please sign them in at the main office and allow your child to walk to class on his/her own. If you are not comfortable with this we will have a staff member walk your student. It is important that students arrive to school on time and attend everyday so that they do not miss out on learning. If your student misses school and we do not hear from you, you may receive a truancy letter. These letters are a way for us to bring to your attention, the amount of days that your student has missed. If you have questions about them, you can call or stop by the office.

Is there a dress code policy?

All children attending Crawford must be dressed appropriately for school. Although we do not have uniforms, students may dress in school colors if they like. Crawford colors include dark blue, light blue, khaki, and white. The following are some dress code guidelines:

  • Pants must be worn on the waist (no sagging.)
  • Skirts must be a modest length (not too short.)
  • Blouses must cover the shoulders and tummy (no spaghetti straps or midriff tops.)
  • T-shirts must not convey vulgar messages

I would like to meet with my child's teacher, what do I do?

It is important to Crawford staff to collaborate with families. If you would like to meet with your child's teacher, please call ahead to schedule a time to meet with them. Our teachers are available before or after school and by appointment. Our teachers always welcome emails as well as phone conferences too.

Do you allow classroom treats for events like birthdays?

We know families love to bring in treats to celebrate special events such as birthdays. If you would like to bring in treats for any occasion, please contact the classroom teacher 2 days prior to the day you would like to bring in treats so you can arrange for a time that would work for everyone. All treats must be store bought. We cannot accept any homemade treats.

A few other reminders:

  • At the end of the day, we receive many messages for students regarding what to do after the school day. If possible, please try to make these arrangements with your child ahead of time so we can all help to make sure they go to the proper place. When we receive messages near the end of the day, it can be hard to promptly relay the message to the student.
  • Please refrain from talking on your cell phones in our office and classrooms as this can be very distracting to people trying to assist in the office as well as disruptive to classroom instruction.
