What is the bell schedule?

Breakfast is served in the classroom for most students. Bus students will eat breakfast in the café starting at 7:25 a.m. All other students should arrive at school no earlier than 7:30 a.m. and will be supervised on the playground. Parents are welcome to wait with their children on the playground.

When the first bell rings, parents say goodbye to their children outside. Children walk to class. Breakfast will begin at 7:40 a.m. Any students not in class at this time are considered tardy and must check in at the office.

Arrival and Dismissal Procedures

Our Crawford Cougars do a wonderful job demonstrating independence and responsibility during arrival each morning. Students line up outside with their class before the school day begins, and several staff members are present to supervise and ensure student safety.

Families are welcome to walk their child to their classroom before the morning bell. If you choose to do so, please bring a valid photo ID and stop by the office to obtain a visitor badge. Once checked in, you may walk your child to their classroom door to say goodbye.

After the morning bell rings, we ask that families only visit classrooms after arranging a time with the teacher in advance. Protecting instructional time is important, and we want to ensure that teachers can focus on teaching, supporting students, and maintaining a safe learning environment.

At dismissal, staff members escort students to designated pick-up areas. Families should meet students on the playground. For the safety of our youngest learners, kindergarten, first-grade, and second-grade students will be released directly to a parent, guardian, or designated caregiver.

Any student who has not been picked up within a reasonable amount of time will be brought to the office. If we are unable to reach a parent, guardian, or emergency contact, local authorities may be contacted to ensure the student's safety.

On days when the weather is below twenty degrees, students and parents will be allowed to wait in the hallways beginning at 7:30 a.m. Parents wishing to come inside must sign in and get a visitor pass. If it is not below twenty degrees, it will be an outdoor recess day. Please dress your child appropriately for the weather.

What are school office hours?

Our office is open from 7:00 am-3:30 pm every day. If we can assist you, please stop by during this time. Please remember that there is no supervision for students until 7:30 a.m.

What Are Your Attendance and Tardy Policies?

Every minute of learning matters at Crawford! Students begin engaging in meaningful instruction as soon as the morning bell rings and continue learning until dismissal at 2:30 p.m.

If your student arrives after the bell, please sign them in at the main office. Students are encouraged to walk to class independently. If your child would be more comfortable with support, a staff member will gladly escort them to their classroom.

Regular attendance and arriving on time are essential to student success. When students are absent or tardy, they miss valuable learning opportunities and classroom experiences that are difficult to replace.

If your student is absent, please notify the school as soon as possible. When absences accumulate and we have not received communication regarding the reason for the absence, you may receive an attendance or truancy letter. These letters are intended to keep families informed about attendance patterns and to help us partner with you to support your child's success.

If you have questions about your student's attendance record or receive a letter and would like additional information, please contact the main office. We are here to help and support your family.

Is There a Dress Code Policy?

Students at Crawford are expected to come to school dressed appropriately for learning and participation in school activities. While we do not require uniforms, students are welcome to wear our school colors: dark blue, light blue, khaki, and white.

To help maintain a positive and respectful learning environment, we ask that students follow these dress guidelines:

• Pants should be worn at the waist.

• Shorts, skirts, and dresses should be an appropriate length for school activities.

• Shirts and tops should fully cover the shoulders, chest, and midriff.

• Clothing should not display inappropriate, vulgar, or offensive language, images, or messages.

• Footwear should be safe and appropriate for active learning and recess.

If there is ever a question regarding a student's attire, school staff will work with families to ensure students can remain comfortable and focused on learning.

I Would Like to Meet With My Child's Teacher. What Should I Do?

At Crawford, we value strong partnerships between families and school staff. If you would like to meet with your child's teacher, please contact them in advance to schedule a time. Families can reach teachers through TalkingPoints, email, or by calling the school office.

Teachers are available before and after school, as well as by appointment. Phone conferences can also be arranged when an in-person meeting is not possible. We welcome communication and look forward to working together to support your child's success.

Do You Allow Classroom Treats for Special Events Such as Birthdays?

We know that families enjoy celebrating special occasions with their child's class. If you would like to provide treats for a birthday or other celebration, please contact the classroom teacher at least two school days in advance to coordinate a time that works best for the class schedule.

For the health and safety of all students, all treats must be commercially prepared and store-bought. Homemade treats cannot be distributed at school.

Additional Reminders

End-of-Day Changes
If your child's dismissal plans change, please notify the school as early as possible. Whenever possible, make after-school arrangements with your child before they arrive at school. Last-minute messages can be difficult to relay promptly, especially during the busy dismissal period.

Cell Phone Use- Office
To help maintain a welcoming and focused environment, we ask that visitors refrain from using cell phones while in the office or classrooms. Phone conversations can be distracting to staff assisting families and may disrupt classroom instruction.
